Finebush Farm

Finebush Farm is situated in the heart of the Tsitsikamma on marginal wetland.
A large mountain lies to the north of the farm and the sea is about 3km south.

OUR MISSION
Our mission is to farm holistically with minimum disturbance to the natural environment.  When the farm was purchased in 1998 it was full of alien species, wattle, pine and gum etc.  We have slowly been eradicating these aliens, an ongoing battle.  We intend to, over time, rehabilitate this land back to its natural state of forest and fynbos.  The natural wetland that runs through the farm was virtually destroyed by the huge blackwoods and wattles growing on its banks.  We are now witnessing the re-generation of the wetland system as well as the establishment of pioneer plant species.

THE NURSERY
On the farm we grow indigenous plants, proteas and fynbos.  The plants are used in Rob’s work (vegetation restoration) and also sold to the general public, nurseries and landscape companies.  There is a growing demand, as the public and private sectors become more educated.  We have a variety of indigenous and endemic plant species.

THE  FARM SHOP
Carla has a charming little farm stall that specializes in selling Garden Route cheeses and other scrumptious products.  We have endeavored and continue to, source as much as possible from the local area.  A delightful picnic lunch is served outdoors on good weather days.

THE ANIMALS
The farm animals are content, free-range animals. We keep about 12 cows for our own use and to keep the Kikuyu down. We rarely use medication on the cows, only if necessary.  The meat we get from the cows is healthy, free of antibiotics and steroids etc.  These cows are so accustomed to their own pace that when we have to herd them for inspection, the entire complement of staff on the farm get about two hours of exercise. Of course we have “Blossom” the Jersey, for milking. We also keep chickens, free range relaxed chickens that die of old age or get taken out by other wildlife, we only eat the eggs.  Meet the dogs, Debbie, Timmy and Stranger (a stray).  Wallace the Braveheart, the Tabby, will rarely be seen as he has the reign of the homestead. Outside the kitchen door, The Oak Tree Weavers are our bonus wildlife gift.

For a personal farm experience you are welcome to share our paradise.
