Tsitsikamma - the Garden of the Garden Route welcomes you - Tsitsikamma is a khoi word meaning “place of abundant or sparkling water”. The region, which sits on a 200m high plateau stretches from the Bloukrans River in the west to the Tsitsikamma River in the east, is bordered on the north by the imposing Tsitsikamma Mountains and in the south by the Indian Ocean. 

The area is covered in large tracts of indigenous forest, commercial plantation and Fynbos. Deep river gorges cleft the plateau as they make their way down to the sea, creating spectacular waterfalls and deep kloofs (ravines). The water in the rivers is a characteristic dark brown (Coca Cola Water) due to its high tannin content leached from the surrounding vegetation. 

A mild all year round climate (temperature variations only between 10 °C and 25 °C generally) allows one to make the most of all the outdoor activities that are on offer, whilst a high rainfall in excess of 1200mm per year ensures the lushness of vegetation that the area is renowned for. 

The region is accessed directly from the N2 National Road that passes through the area on an east to west line. This section of road is one of only a few highways in the world to have 3 bridges in excess of 152 meters in height. 

Traveling through the eastern Tsitsikamma, the R102 provincial road offers a scenic alternative to the N2 through the countryside, passing Witels Peak, Witelsbos Forestry Station, Oudebosch and Eerste Rivier. 

On the western border, the Groot Rivier Pass leads off the N2 and meanders through the fynbos plateau before descending through enchanting indigenous forest down to Natures Valley, well-known for its lagoon and golden beach.

  • Tsitsikamma Falls Adventures
    Enjoy a birds eye view of not 1 but 3 waterfalls as you zipline back and forth across the Kruis river in the garden of garden route. The zipline tour consisting of 8 slides is done in a harness fitted with a patented braking system. Suitable for all ages. We are here to ensure people have loads of safe fun.
  • Blackwater Tubing
    Blackwater Tubing, the unique aqua adventure delivers whole heap of fun, and is the ultimate way to explore the exquisite scenes of the Tsitsikamma. The excursion on one man inflatable river tubes takes place on the Storms River in the Plaatbos Nature reserve and Tsitsikamma National Park. This untouched river adventure is one of fun-filled hours of paddling, swimming, exquisite and unique nature scenes and optional rock and tube jumps up to 8m high.
  • Storms River Village Mountain Biking
    The woodcutter tracks criss crossing the Tsitsikamma forest offer excellent mountain biking opportunities. There is a 22km route ....
  • Stormsriver Village Walks
    There are a number of walks in and around the Storms River Village. The trails range from 1,8 to 9km and meander through the indigenous forests that surround this picturesque town.

    A small self catering cottage for two on the cheese farm Fynboshoek. It's without electricity (gas and candles) and no TV or wifi......there is a big fireplace! The cottage is on the farm yard of a working cheese farm. Sadly, it's not suitable for children or pets. Ideal for people that enjoy quiet country days reading a book, staring at the mountains and using farm products to cook lovely meals.
  • Tsitsikamma Lodge & Spa

The Lodge is first choice for Otter Trail Hikers both pre and post trail.

  • The Big Tree And Ratel Hiking Trails - Storms River Village
    The well sign-posted “Big Tree” is situated on the N2, just east of the entrance to Storms River Village. A 500m wooden boardwalk through indigenous forest leads to the Yellowwood giant. Walking to the tree takes about 10 minutes. The tree is estimated to be ±800 years old; it stands 36.6 meters high and has a circumference of almost 9 meters. It is accessible by vehicle for those with lack of mobility, by special permission. The Ratel Nature Walk follows on from the Big Tree. This trail offers either a 2.6km or 4.2km walk through wet and medium moist High forest, both options are relatively easy.
  • Garden Route National Park
    Along the South Coast of South Africa lies one of the most beautiful stretches of coastline in the world, home to the Garden Route National Park. A mosaic of ecosystems, it encompasses the world renowned Tsitsikamma and Southern Cape indigenous forest and associated Fynbos areas.
