Explore the Tsitsikamma and diverse activities in The Crags on horseback or in the comfort of a horse drawn carriage!!

Magnificent views over mountains, forest and farmland, whilst riding through grassy fields, indigenous Fynbos, local vineyards and old woodcutters’ forest trails to attractions in the area.

Horse Drawn Carriage Trails:

Departure Tuesday – Sunday

Experience the beauty of the Tsitsikamma and boutique wine farms in the Crags Winelands from the comfort of a horse drawn carriage!!

Enjoy magnificent views over mountains, forest and farmland, whilst sipping local wine in the company of your fellow carriage riders.

Our vintage 10-seater carriage is drawn by two beautiful Percherons and our guides will entertain you with interesting facts and information regarding the history of the area, its people and the local wine industry. Refreshments are served during the carriage ride.

All are welcome and we cater for all ages. Our carriage trails are perfect for :

Wine Tasting And Lunch Trail:

Departure 10h30 and 12h00 Tuesday – Sunday

Based at Redford Lane Wine Estate, check in for your carriage ride through the Crags Winelands to enjoy two wine tastings and a delectable lunch at a combination of Loadstone, Kay & Monty and Redford Lane Wine Estates.

R850-00 per person including carriage trail, wine tasting at 2 farms and lunch and wine at third farm.

R550-00 per person for carriage ride only and with refreshments, wine and lunch for own account.

Departure Every Day

Choose between a one hour farm trail with views over the mountains and forest, a two hour forest trail, a three hour trail with an optional picnic prepared by a local wine farm or a half or full day Cruise The Crags Trail, riding on horse back to animal sanctuaries, eco-activities and boutique wine farms in the area..

One Hour Farm Trail: Departure Daily @ 09h00

Meander across lush green fields, overlooking the forest and mountains in the distance, amongst farm animals and local wildlife. This ride offers open terrain, ideal for an optional trot or canter whilst being close to nature and enjoying the magnificent surrounds..

Cost: R300-00 per person for 1 hour

Two Hour Forest Trail: Departure Daily @ 10h00 & 14h00

Explore local forest and farmland. You might get close to Baboons, Monkeys and indigenous birds, with an option of a trot or canter over beautiful emerald fields with unsurpassed views over the surrounding forest and mountains in the distance..

Cost: R600-00 per person for 2 hours

Three Hour Forest Trails: Departure Daily @ 10h00

3 Hour Forest Ride: a beautiful ride through fields, tea plantations, vineyards and forest, with views over the magnificent Tsitsikamma Mountains. An optional picnic is available on request.

Cost: R900-00 per person trail only R1200-00 per person including picnic and wine/grape juice

Half or Full Day Cruise Cruise The Crags Trail: Departure 10h00 for half day and 09h00 for full day

An action filled day amidst the Tsitsikamma Forest and magnificent Crags at the foot of the Tsitsikamma Mountains, riding on horse back between fun filled activities. Choose up to two of the following activities plus a lunch venue and tailor make your own route on horseback.

Monkeyland, Birds of Eden, Crags Elephant Sanctuary, Tenikwa Cat Sanctuary, Lawnwood Snake Sanctuary, fresh farm fare at Peppermill Café or a delectable Tappas Lunch at Bramon Wine Estate. Booking required 48 hours in advance and package prices upon enquiry.

Cost:

Half Day: R900-00 per person for Half Day (One Activity and Lunch) Cruise The Crags Trail – excluding activities and lunch. Package rates dependant on choice of activities and available on request.

Full Day: R1200-00 per person for Full Day (Two Activities and Lunch) Cruise The Crags Trail – excluding activities and lunch. Package rates dependant on choice of activities and available on request.

Half or Full Day Wine Trail : Departure 10h00 for half day and 09h00 for full day

Enjoy the Crags Wine Route on horseback. Explore the beautiful vineyards, Fynbos and forest whilst tasting local wines and accompanying delectable fare at a choice of three wine estates in this area : Bramon Wine Estate (open every day), Redford Lane Wines (open Tuesday – Sunday), and Newstead Wines (open Tuesday to Saturday).

Cost:

Half Day: R900-00 per person for Half Day (One Wine Farm) Crags Wine Trail – excluding wine tasting and lunch.

Full Day: R1200-00 per person for Full Day (Two Wine Farms) Crags Wine Trail – excluding wine tastings and lunch.

All level of riders are welcome, and all ages are welcome. Maximum weight of 120kg applies. We have had from 3-year- olds to 85-year- olds on our trails!! Upon arrival, a short assessment is made to identify the right horse and safe riding gear for each rider.

Our horses are selected for their good composition and gentle temperaments. We love them and keep them in tip-top condition. Their tack fits properly and is well maintained. Our focus is to ensure that our rides are suitable for all levels of experience – the emphasis being on a safe and enjoyable ride.

Riders to arrive 30 mins prior to departure of the trail ride in order to kit up, fill in necessary forms and be allocated the right horse.

Facilities:

  • Fitting riding safety helmet and chaps upon arrival.
  • A brief assessment regarding rider competence.
  • Determining the right horse for every rider ie size, level of experience.
  • Guidance in the basics of riding a horse.
  • Pace of ride is determined by ability of riders present..
  • Experienced guides whose focus lies in providing a fun, safe experience for all..

Rider Clothing Recommendations:

  • Wear comfortable, stretch pants ie ski pants, stretch jeans or track suit pants.
  • Shoes need to be closed and have a firm sole - if possible a slight heel for maximum safety.
  • Loose fitting shirt or T-shirt.
  • Sun Block.
  • Riders allergic to horse hair should plan ahead and bring along anti-histamine and/or asthma pumps.
