The company has been nominated as finalist in the following three catagories:
• Best overall environmental management system
• Best Social involvement programme
• Best Economic Impact
The awards ceremony will be held on November 12th in Johannesburg.
(2) Virgin Atlantic World Travel Market Responsible Tourism Awards – London
Stormsriver Adventures has been nominated as finalist in this prestigious international award to be presented at WTM in London on November the 12th. BBC World news will be hosting a luncheon for nominees.
CEO Ashley Wentworth stated:-
“We are ecstatic at the multiple nominations which bear testimony to the commitment of each and every staff member to Responsible Tourism.” Wentworth further stated “Accolades such as these belong to the dedicated professional team at Stormsriver Adventures. They live the philosophies of the company on a daily basis. These principles are embroiled in our Ten point commitment Statement which was formulated ten years ago.”
Stormsriver Adventures was one of the first “Fair Trade” accredited tourism enterprises in the world receiving accreditation in 2003 and has achieved re accreditation bi annually.
Wentworth further stated:-
“We shall continue to make a meaningful difference to our community while ensuring that the environment is in no way compromised. All tourism business have to positively embrace the challenges of poverty alleviation, HIV/AIDS and service delivery.”
Stormsriver Adventures operates out of the rural Stormsriver Village in the Tsitsikamma offering Eco adventure activities such as the world renowned Tsitsikamma Canopy Tour and the Woodcutters Forest Tour.
The company has received numerous awards in the past including Proudly South African Company of the year (SMME) 2007
More recently in 2008 the company came second in the AHI “Old Mutual” Small enterprise of the year Awards which were presented at Sun City.
