Stormsriver Adventures Newsletter - July 2009Our Animals:
The animal welfare and education programme has expanded dramatically over the last seven years since inception and now caters for 200 animals.
Creating a ‘value system’ around the dog or cat has been fundamental to the project.
The positive spin offs are tangible in many of our children who learn responsibility and self worth.
This positively impacts on their home environment. Ably assisted by our local vets in Kareedouw, Fiona conducts regular vaccination clinics, mange treatments and through Stormsriver Adventures sponsors monthly sterilization.
It is heart warming to see the kids helping older folks to get their animals to the community hall for treatment.
The terrible weather did not hamper the spirit of the community and 130 animals and their owners arrived for the inoculation clinic on the 22nd June.
Our children:
With the onset of the July school holidays and the economic down turn leading to more job losses in Stormsriver, we have extended our school feeding scheme through the holiday period ensuring four meals a week to needy children.
The project is committed to providing 200 children a good meal four times per week during school terms and has now been extended to include school holidays.
Aunt Bessie Draai, one of our community elders, ensures that each child receives the meals provided by Stormsriver Adventures on a daily basis amounting to 32 000 meals per year which are supplied to the kids.
