The South African Animal Sanctuary Alliance (SAASA) is comprised of Monkeyland, Birds of Eden and Jukani Wildlife Sanctuary located in Plettenberg Bay, South Africa. All the SAASA sanctuaries follow ethical and responsible tourism practises and supports the #HandsOffOurWildlife campaign. The SAASA sanctuaries are in the process of opening a 4th sanctuary in Kwa-Zulu Natal which will also be a monkey sanctuary. Herewith more details on the 3 sanctuaries located on the Garden Route:
Monkeyland = is the world first and largest free roaming primate sanctuary hosting over 550 primates of different species. At Monkeyland visitors go on a 1 hour guided tour into our 12-hectare forest with one of our trained and professional guides. The guides will attempt to find as many different species and give the clients ample time to take photos and ask questions.
Birds of Eden = is the world largest single dome free flight aviary hosting over 200 species and nearly 3500 birds. Visitors have the option of going on a self-guided tour through our 3-hectare aviary on our specially build 1.2km boardwalks or requesting a guide to walk them through the aviary and telling them all about the different birds.
Jukani Wildlife Sanctuary = This sanctuary is one of a kind with enclosures build specially for the animal’s needs and personality. Jukani is home to not only Apex Cats but also other Predators and hoof animals. Visitors go on a 1 ½ hour tour with a professional and trained guide into the sanctuary. You walk past the enclosures while the guide tells you about the past, present and interesting facts of the animals you see. We have specially built photography ramps from where you can take amazing photos.
